SINA at the PIARC Workshop in Turin: Innovation in bridge monitoring and management
17 March 2026On 12 and 13 March 2026, SINA took part in the international workshop on dynamic infrastructure monitoring organised by the Polytechnic University of Turin, by the PIARC (World Road Association) Bridges Committee and by the SISCON interdepartmental centre (Safety for InfraStructures and Constructions), . Hosted in the Salone d’Onore of the Castello del Valentino, the event lasted two days and it was dedicated to the technical discussion and the sharing of operational and methodological best practices.
On the first day, SINA made a significant contribution during the session dedicated to innovative technologies. Giuseppe Pasqualato, Technical Director of SINA and member of the PIARC 4.2 Technical Committee (Bridges), presented the paper: ‘Bridge monitoring in the management of infrastructure assets within the experience of SINA-ASTM’. The report illustrated the Group’s integrated approach combining advanced monitoring with strategic management of infrastructure assets.
The second day was dedicated to a technical on-site of the Sopranda viaduct, along the A6 Turin-Savona motorway. A delegation of thirty-five experts, including university professors and professionals from international concessionaires, witnessed the lifting of a section of the deck through one of the “portals” installed on the structure. Used during the demolition phases of the viaduct, these structures allow vehicles to pass on the portion of the carriageway not affected by the works, minimising the impact on traffic. Engineers Giuseppe Pasqualato and Giovanni Massone (Head of SINA Works Management) gave a detailed explanation of the improvement works and the adopted engineering solutions.
The upgrading of the Sopranda viaduct is part of the lot no. 4 of the seismic retrofitting works involving 10 viaducts on the A6 motorway. The project involves the collaboration of professionals from various companies within the ASTM Group: SINA, Autostrada dei Fiori – ASTM’s concessionaire for the section, and Itinera – the construction company of the group. The project is a concrete expression of ASTM’s One Company model, an approach that covers the entire infrastructure value chain, synergistically integrating planning, advanced design, execution of works and operational management.
