SINA: integration of BIM and AMS for the digitalisation of infrastructure
23 July 2026The evolution of asset management for road and motorway infrastructure is increasingly driven by the digitalisation and centralisation of data. Against this backdrop, SINA is developing an integrated approach that combines BIM (Building Information Modelling) and AMS (Bridge Management System) to optimise the monitoring and maintenance of bridges, viaducts and tunnels.
The BIM model is not only used during the design phase but also serves as a ‘digital twin’ of the infrastructure. SINA maps every structural component within 3D geometric models and links this information to the AMS, the software platform dedicated to the management and safety of engineering structures.
This methodology is being put into practice as part of the digitalisation plan that SINA is implementing across the motorway network under its concession. The BIM models have been linked directly to SIOS (SINA Infrastructure Inspection System), the proprietary database used for the inventory and monitoring of structures. This integration enables engineers to visualise, on the 3D model, the data collected during visual inspections or by structural monitoring sensors.
This centralised flow of information makes it possible to:
- Identify and visualise inspection data directly on the components of the 3D model.
- Analyse trends in material degradation to plan long-term maintenance work.
- Optimise the financial management of the structure throughout its entire life cycle (Life Cycle Cost).
The application of BIM to Asset Management aims to move beyond traditional maintenance models by standardising monitoring processes and improving the effectiveness of planning interventions across the network.
